Early Voting Starts Today — Prop 14 Offers Texans a Landmark Opportunity for Dementia Research and Prevention
|
More than 460,000 Texans are living with Alzheimer’s disease today, and nearly 1 million more serve as unpaid caregivers—family members, friends, and neighbors who provide daily support to those affected. The human and economic toll of dementia continues to grow, impacting every sector of our state, from healthcare and workforce productivity to community well-being.
In response, the Texas Legislature established the Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (DPRIT) to accelerate innovation in dementia science and prevention. DPRIT represents a landmark step toward building the infrastructure, research networks, and translational capacity needed to make meaningful progress in understanding and combating this complex disease.
|
The Legislature also placed Proposition 14 on the November statewide ballot, asking Texas voters to determine whether to allocate $3 billion over 10 years to fund DPRIT’s mission. If approved, this would place Texas at the forefront of biomedical innovation and discovery in dementia research and prevention.
Such an investment would:
-
Expand research capacity across Texas institutions and attract top scientific talent.
-
Fuel discovery in prevention, early detection, and treatment of Alzheimer’s and related dementias.
-
Strengthen the healthcare economy, creating jobs and fostering industry partnerships in biotechnology and life sciences.
-
Support caregivers and families through evidence-based advances that improve quality of life and reduce long-term costs.

At BioNTX, we believe this moment represents a defining opportunity for Texas to strengthen its leadership in life science innovation and respond to one of the most pressing public health challenges of our time.
Early voting runs October 20–31, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 4. We encourage all Texans to be informed, understand Proposition 14, and recognize the profound implications DPRIT could have for the long-term health and well-being of families across our state.
