AstraZeneca Reports Positive Phase III Results

for Imfinzi in Small Cell Lung Cancer

AstraZeneca’s Phase III DeLLphi-305 trial showed that Imfinzi (durvalumab) plus tarlatamab significantly improved overall survival compared with Imfinzi alone in patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer. The combination also improved progression-free survival and response rates, with no new safety concerns identified. The results highlight the potential for this combination to provide a new treatment option for patients with this aggressive form of lung cancer.

 Colossal Biosciences’ Tasmanian Tiger

Efforts Bolstered by New Research

A new study published in Nature Communications is providing fresh insight into the biology of the extinct Tasmanian tiger, suggesting the species was adapted to hunt smaller prey rather than livestock. Researchers found that the thylacine’s distinctive skull and jaw structure differed significantly from wolves and other carnivorous mammals, challenging assumptions that contributed to its persecution and eventual extinction. The findings offer new insight into the species as Colossal Biosciences advances its efforts to bring the Tasmanian tiger back through genetic engineering and de-extinction technology.

Island Pharmaceuticals Secures FDA

Regulatory Authorization for Marburg Drug Development

Island Pharmaceuticals has secured a Letter of Authorization allowing it to reference comprehensive Marburg-Angola virus natural history data in submissions to the US FDA. The authorization addresses specific FDA feedback and supports the company’s development of Galidesivir under the FDA’s Animal Rule pathway. Island plans to conduct additional non-human primate studies at USAMRIID and Texas Biomedical Research Institute to evaluate dosing and treatment timing following Marburg infection.

Johnson & Johnson Receives FDA Approval

for IMAAVY in Rare Blood Disorder

Johnson & Johnson announced that the FDA has approved IMAAVY® (nipocalimab-aahu) for adults and children ages 12 and older with warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia (wAIHA). The approval makes IMAAVY the first FDA-approved treatment specifically for wAIHA, addressing a significant unmet need for patients with this rare and potentially life-threatening autoimmune disease. The approval is supported by Phase 2/3 ENERGY trial results showing improved and sustained hemoglobin levels compared with placebo.
