The Colossal Foundation has donated to the University of Melbourne to advance avian conservation genomics. Founded in 2021 by software entrepreneur Ben Lamm and geneticist George Church, Colossal has raised over $225 million and is known for pioneering CRISPR-based species de-extinction efforts, including plans to revive the woolly mammoth, dodo, and Tasmanian tiger.

CEO Ben Lamm stated the funding will support the development of advanced genomic tools to innovate bird species conservation in Australia and globally.
