The Colossal Foundation, the nonprofit conservation arm of Colossal Biosciences, partnered with the University of Tasmania to develop new strategies to combat Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD), a contagious cancer that has severely impacted wild Tasmanian devil populations. The collaboration will combine vaccine development, marsupial research, and gene-editing approaches, including establishing a fat-tailed dunnart research colony to support testing and conservation efforts. The partnership aims to protect the Tasmanian devil from extinction while advancing biotechnology tools that could support broader wildlife conservation and genetic rescue initiatives.
