Colossal to Improve Genetics of Bison

Colossal to Improve Genetics of Bison

A Texas biotechnology and genetic engineering firm, known for its groundbreaking efforts to de-extinct the dodo and Tasmanian tiger, is now aiming to enhance American bison on the Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming using woolly mammoth genetics.

Colossal Biosciences, the same company that has proposed the reintroduction of woolly mammoths into Yellowstone National Park, is now shifting its focus. Instead of reviving extinct species, its new initiative seeks to advance the genetic makeup of North America's iconic American bison, building on one of the nation's most significant conservation successes.

With the Colossal Indigenous Council, a partnership between Colossal and several American Indian tribes, they hope to explore the vast genetic lineage of bison.
