Johnson & Johnson’s ERLEADA Phase 3 Study Reduces Risk of Metastasis or Death in High-Risk Prostate Cancer

Johnson & Johnson announced positive results from the Phase 3 PROTEUS trial showing that ERLEADA (apalutamide) combined with androgen deprivation therapy before and after surgery significantly improved outcomes for patients with high-risk localized or locally advanced prostate cancer. Patients receiving the regimen were nine times more likely to have little or no detectable cancer remaining at surgery and experienced a 20% reduction in the risk of metastasis or death compared with hormone therapy alone. The findings, presented in the plenary session at ASCO 2026 and published in The New England Journal of Medicine, could reshape the standard treatment approach for high-risk prostate cancer by introducing systemic therapy earlier in the disease course.
