University of Texas at Tyler Announces New Study Reveals Discovery in Blood Clotting Process

The University of Texas at Tyler announced results from the first human study showing that naturally occurring mutations in the tissue factor protein which helps initiate blood clotting can impair the clotting process, a finding not previously observed in humans. Led by a UT Tyler School of Medicine researcher with collaborators from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, the discovery could improve diagnostic tools and lead to more personalized care for patients with unexplained bleeding risks.
