UNTHSC Leading Charge with Diverse Brain Aging Research Project

Research on Alzheimer’s disease biomarkers is often constrained by a lack of diversity among study participants, creating a critical gap in understanding how the disease progresses across various racial and ethnic groups. Despite evidence showing that all-cause dementia is most prevalent among Black and Hispanic individuals, these groups represent only about five percent of clinical trial participants.

Dr. Sid O’Bryant leads the Health and Aging Brain Study-Health Disparities (HABS-HD) project at The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. This ongoing study has enrolled over 5,000 participants, each receiving follow-up assessments every two years.
