UT Dallas Designs Innovative Wind Turbine

In Dr. Todd Griffith’s lab at UT Dallas, a 6-foot-tall wind turbine prototype—resembling an upside-down eggbeater—represents a bold new approach to offshore wind energy.

Griffith’s team has successfully tested the design, which could harness powerful winds over deep ocean waters. The next step is scaling up, with plans for a 500-foot version and, ultimately, a 900-foot turbine—about the height of a 72-story skyscraper—capable of generating electricity miles offshore, far from coastal views.
