UT Dallas iGEM Team Wins Gold Medal at International Synthetic Biology Competition
A team of University of Texas at Dallas students earned a gold medal at the 2025 International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Grand Jamboree in Paris for their synthetic biology project focused on stabilizing mRNA using stress‑protective proteins from tardigrades, potentially improving vaccine stability. They were also nominated for the Best Biomanufacturing Project award, standing out among thousands of global undergraduate competitors. The experience gave team members practical research exposure and strengthened their scientific and communication skills. Faculty advisors and university leaders highlighted the team’s hard work and the significance of UT Dallas’s return to the competition after several years.
