UTA Uses AI to Uncover Causes of Eye Disease and Identify Potential Treatments

The University of Texas at Arlington received a $1.96 million grant from the National Eye Institute to develop AI-powered tools that help researchers understand what causes eye diseases and identify ways to protect vision. Led by Professor Xinlei (Sherry) Wang in collaboration with UT Southwestern, the four-year project will analyze large genetic datasets and separate signals from different eye cell types to identify important biological regulators. The findings could help researchers discover new targets for future diagnostics and targeted treatments for eye disease.
