UTSW Study Discovers Genetic Testing is Becoming Mainstream
Sukh Makhnoon, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Public Health, UTSW Genetic testing is gaining widespread acceptance in the U.S., driven by advancements in technology and consumer products, according to UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers. A study in Frontiers in Genetics revealed that interest in ancestry research and increasing clinical referrals are fueling the trend. Data from the 2022 Health Information National Trends Survey showed 81% of Americans are aware of genetic testing, and 40% have undergone at least one test—up from 75% awareness and 19% usage in 2020.
