UTSW Team to Research Cerebellar Brain Disorders Treatments

A multidisciplinary team at UT Southwestern Medical Center, led by Drs. Nader Pouratian and Peter Tsai, has been awarded by the Raynor Cerebellum Project to develop groundbreaking neuromodulation therapies for cerebellar brain disorders.

The cerebellum controls motor movement, balance, and muscle coordination, and it also influences certain cognitive functions. Dr. Tsai, Associate Professor of Neurology, Neuroscience, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry, emphasized that current treatments do not address the root causes of cerebellar disorders, something this innovative research aims to change.
