Life Science Oklahoma is a new association serving as the connector and advocate for life sciences in Oklahoma. The organization promotes programs, initiatives, local and national connectivity, research, and products of partner organizations through education and outreach, partnership building, policy development, and brand awareness.
Bioscience on Tap, a networking event at the historic Harn Homestead, brought together over 90 stakeholders this October including industry partners, researchers, investors, entrepreneurs, government and community partners.

ReCode Therapeutics has begun dosing the first patient in a Phase 1b study of RCT2100, an inhaled mRNA therapy for cystic fibrosis (CF), which affects approximately 130,000 people globally. While existing CFTR modulator therapies benefit many, patients with specific mutations remain underserved.
Dr. Shehnaaz Suliman, CEO of ReCode, noted, “This study offers new hope for those who cannot benefit from current treatments.” The company is focused on accelerating enrollment to expedite access to this promising therapy.

Texas Woman's University (TWU) has garnered recognition for its commitment to empowering women in STEM, particularly in biology programs. Dr. Juliet Spencer, Director of the School of Sciences, expressed her pride in the university's achievements and its strong focus on student success.
With an emphasis on creating supportive educational environments, TWU ranked fourth nationally for median earnings of graduates five years after graduation, averaging $60,619 annually for both female and male graduates.

UTA Professor Honored with 2025 Melba Newell Phillips Medal for Contributions to Physics & Life Sciences Education
|
Karen Jo Matsler, a Master Teacher in the UTeach program at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), will receive the 2025 Melba Newell Phillips Medal from the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT). This award honors her significant contributions to physics education and support for educators nationwide.
With over 20 years of advocacy, Dr. Matsler has worked to improve access to physics education in high schools and has pioneered initiatives in quantum education. Her Quantum for All program equips teachers with resources to introduce quantum concepts early, fostering interest in careers related to quantum technology, which increasingly intersects with life sciences in fields like medical imaging and biotechnology.

UT Dallas Faculty Awarded NSF CAREER Grants
for Pioneering Research Initiatives
|
Dr. Rodrigo A. Bernal, Dr. Sheel C. Dodani (BS ’07), and Dr. Rizwanur Khan from The University of Texas at Dallas have been awarded Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2023. Since 2010, UT Dallas has received 55 NSF CAREER awards, supporting faculty poised to lead in research and education.
With his grant, Bernal will investigate the scalability and durability of nanomaterials in consumer products, focusing on how their strength and electrical conductivity hold up when used in large quantities. This research aims to develop robust materials that can reliably perform in various applications.

UNT Health Science Center Opens New College of Nursing Facility
|
The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth celebrated the opening of its new College of Nursing with a lamp lighting ceremony. The renovated 10,500-square-foot wing features modern offices and a Regional Simulation Center for clinical training.
The College offers advanced degrees, including the Master of Science in Nursing Practice Innovation, which began in August. Applications for BSN and MSN programs are open until November 1.

Launch Pediatric Health Campus in Dallas

Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center have broken ground on a new pediatric health campus to replace the existing Children’s Medical Center Dallas. This expansive facility will cover over 4.7 million square feet and include a new pediatric hospital featuring two 12-story towers and one eight-story tower, significantly expanding inpatient, surgical, and ambulatory care. With the pediatric population in North Texas projected to double by 2050, this new campus will create a comprehensive hub for a full range of pediatric services and advanced medical research.
