UT Southwestern Researcher Leads Effort to

Make Whole Eye Transplants a Reality

UT Southwestern researcher Kevin Park is leading efforts to make whole eye transplants a reality through a groundbreaking initiative supported by ARPA-H, a federal agency with a regional hub at Pegasus Park in Dallas. As a professor of ophthalmology and neuroscience, Park has long pursued what he describes as the "holy grail" of regenerative vision science—the ability to restore sight through a fully functional eye transplant.

The initiative brings together 40 top researchers from across the country to advance this work. While the first medical full eye transplant was performed last year at NYU, restoring blood flow but not vision, scientists believe they are getting closer to making restored sight possible.
