(NTx Bio) will be launching a new biomanufacturing facility in Plano, bringing over 170 high-skilled jobs and strengthening North Texas’ position as a rising hub for biotech innovation. The facility will support the development of advanced RNA and protein-based therapies, fueling growth in the region’s life sciences workforce and research capabilities.

LP-184 Trial in Triple Negative Breast Cancer

Lantern Pharma has received FDA clearance to begin a Phase 1b/2 clinical trial of LP-184 in Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). This follows Orphan Drug Designation (2023) and Fast Track Designation (2024). With limited treatment options and average survival of just 10–18 months for metastatic TNBC, LP-184 targets a critical unmet need in a market exceeding $4B annually.

Students and alumni from the University of Texas at Dallas showcased their innovative ideas in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and digital community-building at the Big Idea Competition finals, hosted by the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE). Since its inception in 2007 at the Naveen Jindal School of Management, the competition awarded over $62,000 this year and received a record-breaking 125+ applications.
Biodelivera, developed by twin chemistry doctoral students Ikeda and Orikeda Trashi, took first place in the student competition, winning a $12,000 prize. Their platform, designed to deliver cancer therapy directly to tumors using virus-like particles, offers a novel solution to precisely target cancer cells, infiltrating tumor tissues deeply while being cost-effective. "This is a game changer for cancer therapy," said Ikeda Trashi during their pitch.

Connor Berberek, a mechanical engineering major graduating Friday during the College of Engineering’s 7 p.m. commencement ceremony at Globe Life Field, took full advantage of UTA’s undergraduate research opportunities by working with researchers at the UTA Research Institute (UTARI) in Fort Worth this spring. There, he assisted in fabricating and testing composite materials—materials that combine multiple substances to enhance strength and durability. This experience not only enriched his coursework but also solidified his decision to pursue a career in mechanical engineering.

New research from The University of Texas at Arlington, focused on improving the effectiveness of radiation therapy for cancer and other diseases.
The research team developed a system to study alpha radiation, exploring both its potential for treating cancer and the risks it might pose in other situations, such as space travel. The system is designed to be adjustable, allowing scientists to control the amount, speed, and method of radiation delivery. This flexibility makes it suitable for applications ranging from cancer therapy to low-level radiation exposure.

UT Southwestern Medical Center has officially broken ground on a Radiation Oncology campus in Fort Worth, ushering in a new era of cutting-edge cancer care for the city and surrounding communities. The new 65,000-square-foot facility will offer the most advanced therapies available, including Fort Worth's first MRI-guided precision radiation treatment, positioning it as a regional hub for cancer care. The campus is set to meet the growing demand for radiation oncology services, helping ensure access to world-class treatment for years to come. Scheduled to open in 2028, the new facility will be closely connected to UT Southwestern’s Moncrief Cancer Institute, further strengthening the area's cancer care infrastructure.
